5 of the best comics

If you have a penchant for graphic novels and comics, this top five list will definitely be of interest to you. Graphic novels and comics have been popular for years now, but they have seem somewhat of a resurgence in recent years, with some of the best editions yet being published by both little-known and huge comic book companies. With a mixture of traditional comic book storylines and out-there plots that will keep you guessing, comics are ideal for all ages. Whether you have been reading them since you were a young child or you are just getting into them though, here are five that you should check out:
1. DC Comics Classics Library
This new hardcover comic collects four of DC comics’ best 80-page Batman annuals together. Batman is one of the most popular super heroes to have emerged from the world of comics, with huge film titles being recreated from the plotlines and a cartoon TV series also spawning from them. Batman is the ultimate hero though, with impeccable morals and a perfect rise to heroism. Packed with fascinating characters and impeccable artwork, this hardcover annual-collection would make a fantastic Christmas present too.

2. MetaMAUS
Many people believe that MAUS, by Art Spiegelman, is more than a comic, and it is now studied in lots of schools and universities around the globe. The comic details the author’s father’s life during the Second World War, in which the Jews are depicted as mice and the Nazis as cats. MetaMAUS is the 25th anniversary title of the book and contains an array of never-before-seen sketches and information to go along with the comic.
3. Justice League International
The Justice League International comics are some of DC’s best and are known as crossover comics, in which superheroes in the DC world join forces to fight evil. Starring Batman, Blue Beetle, Booster Gold and many other heroes, the Justice League International comics are a must-read for DC fans.
4. Watchmen
Better known to non-comic fans for its resulting blockbuster film, Watchmen redefined the comic book genre upon release. In it, Rorschach must reform the old Watchmen team of superheroes in order to scupper the plans he has uncovered, in which the remaining members of the team are to be assassinated, along with millions of innocent civilians.
5. Blackest Night
Another crossover comic series from DC, Blackest Night follows superheroes such as The Flash, Wonder Woman and the Justice Society of America in their fight to save the world.
